I must stress that I am not writing only for selective individuals who have all the time in the world to keep adding more activities into their day. I believe that we all have been blessed with 24 hours in a day and it is more of how we manage our day that defines our status.
There are hundreds of time management strategies available but even the most productive ones will not make any difference if you don’t change the way you think.
Follow up:
It is easier accepting that you have no time than to admit that it is possible to overcome this issue. Although acceptance is the first step to improvement, most of us do not really make an effort to go beyond this step.
The richest man on the planet has the same number of hours in his day as you do but if he is much more successful than you, it only means that he sees something that you have not seen as yet. Time management has to first work in your mind before it can take effect in your life.
Each time you keep saying that you are too busy, you are giving more strength to the problem unless you seek for a solution to overcome it. You need to find the time to improve your life, which will remain stagnant otherwise.
Even if you are content with the way your life is right now, and don’t seem to want to change it; you still need to be able to know of a way of managing your time should the need arise in future.
If you have been reading UToL for quite a while and have been adopting at least a few of the theories, you should have been able to reduce a reasonable amount of time each day by now.
Letting each day flow by as it comes is fine as long as you don’t end up regretting on missing out on some important chores when you get to bed. Extraordinary people do things differently and if it works for them, it should work for you too.
Does this mean that you have to skip your weekend golf or trips with the family for more time at work? Absolutely not!
Instead, I am telling you to find more time to add more play and balance to your life. Keep an eye on all that you do each day. Make a list of it at the end of the day. It should hardly take 5 minutes and this will help you to identify the activities that are unnecessarily occupying precious time.
Checking your inbox at the end of the day even though it could easily be done in the morning could be replaced by some other activity. Value time and it will value your life.
Even being stuck in traffic can be converted into a productive activity. The blaring horns and screeching tyres will only increase your blood pressure but listening to your favorite music or some motivational speech can add more value to your life than you can possibly imagine. It gets you into a much better mood and you get to begin your day on a good note!
Does staying in bed late when you have a ton of laundry and dishes to clean make you feel guilty? Life isn’t about running from one chore to the next. Make every activity enjoyable, even the exhaustive ones. Look for creative ways to stay motivated.
Kids can turn just about anything into an imaginative and fun activity. If you were able to do that when you were much younger, you still have it in you to turn even the dullest work into a challenging and enjoyable one.
Besides just feeling satified with your accomplishments, adopt the attitude of having done all of it with a smile.
Time is much too precious to be wasted on only what you think you can do. Instead, focus on how much more you can do!363 comments
